No. Once the video is shot onto DV, it remains intact and unaltered no matter if it is transfered from, camera, computer, deck or whatever. The 3 chip will shoot better video but, once that's done the DV can be transfered to anything without quality lose. BTW I'm pretty sure that the XL-1 is a three chip camera anyway. -jim
