Had similar problem. Camera connection worked, but after installing XP upgrades it didnt anymore. I found some hints in other places and solved the problem as follows for XP Home edition SP1 1) Deinstalled the 1394 driver 2) shutdown computer 3) connect camera and turn on camera in VTR mode 4) start computer; XP now recognizes the device an video software can control the camera Now, I always first turn on the camera, then start the computer; otherwise the video software hangs
