Sony TV stopped working
TV was on and working fine, then turned off by it self and I cannot turn it on any more. Fuse is okay and there is no visible burn in any component as far as I can see. Any idea?
It's tough to be sure 'cause you didn't specify size or model, but if it's roughly ten years old or so it's probably a shorted horizontal output transistor (the big one on the right side, attached to the heat sink fence),and that probably took out the regulator transistors (the two smaller ones on the left side fence)...near these two there is also a .1ohm resistor that opens up so that the fuse doesn't blow. replace these four things and re-solder any suspect solder joints (especially around the horizontal drive transformer) and chances are you'll be alright. If the H.O.T. gets really hot to the touch after a few minutes shut the set down and check the small resistor behind the regulators next to the low voltage transformer...should be a very low resistance...also, the horizontal drive transformer can be the root cause of this failure. Replace it either with an original or you can use one from a thompson ctc177 chassis...runs cool as a cucumber. ...and you thought this was easy... Good luck Steve
