How does the "duplicate" button work?

I understand that the "duplicate" button on my DSR-20 is supposed to duplicate a tape along with its original timecode. But I can't get the darn thing to work. When I hook up another deck (panasonic) via firewire to my DSR-20 and try to record on the DSR-20 the duplicate button doesn't work. No matter what order of buttons I push, the duplicate button doesn't work. Any ideas??? Wayne Jacobs City Videography
