Newbie Needs Help Choosing a Digital Video Camera

I have to choose a digital video camera that meets a specific set of criteria, and being new to digital video, I could use some advice as to makes and models to consider.

Greetings All,

These are the criteria:

- Simple and easy to use; minimal bells, whistles and distractions; as "auto everything" as possible; no newbie should have a problem picking it up and recording without opening the user manual.

- Must have slow motion and frame-by-frame viewing options.

- Must be able to simultaneously a) record to internal digital medium; b) record to external VHS VCR; and c) view on external TV monitor.

- Cost is definitely a factor.

I need to get a handle on what's out there as soon as possible, so if any of you pro's and experienced video folks can give me a heads up, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks.
