needing help with some information

have recently purchased a phillips 29 inch tv, some reason or another i cant get channels 1 , 2 or 3 without having sky. Any ideas on this would be great. Have been told that a box needs replacing to be able to view these channels but i just cant understand why u have to have sky u can play ps2 and that fine on it. Cheers guys throw me your thoughts
