Removing Condensation

layne conn Posted Jun 17, 2004

What's the best way to remove condensation from the camcorder??

Now, I have a fan blowing inside the cassette door, to help yo dry it out.Or would it be better to try some distant long term heat from an electric heater. The camera says it's in "Safety Mode" due to condensation problems.Consequently the tape door stays open.It also says to remove the battery, and try again.I'm not even using the battery, only thee AC cord.Any suggestions???? This unit is a JVC D30u, if that helps. Do you think I should just replace the battery altogether? How do find out when the battery is too low to continuously power the unit?

Hi, I have been having the same condensation problem, and I have heard various suggestions. I usually leave it in front of a fan for an hour and the problem ceases, but today, I left it in front of a fan, and in an air conditioned room, and the problem persists. I want to know whether to keep the camera in a warm room or a cooler room. Any suggestions, other than resorting to buying another camera.

I had the same problem i tried everything but nothing worked but suddenly i looked outside and it was a nice sunny day and my room window was open so i put my camera near the window for 2 hours and when i tried again everything was working fine. Good luck!! and please forget about JVC support it doesn\'t exist.

No luck with the sillical gel packs, so I placed the camera in a plastic bag with the sillica gel packs in it. I called the JVC support line 866.582.8324 and they are useless, the girl said she would locate a service centre based on my postal code which I can do it on my own. I will try the camera again today and if it doesn't work it seems that I will have to take it to a service centre. From what I have been reading on the internet and from my experience this is what I have to say "I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANY JVC PRODUCTS WHATSOEVER, LET THEM GO BANKRUPT OUT OF BUSSINESS AS THIS IS WHAT THEY DESERVE FOR THEIR PRODUCT/SERVICE".

Sivaram has a good point! I have a JVC GR D-90U which started having the condensation problem right after the warranty ended. I have been reading several forums and trying what has been suggested (A/C, fan, leave it open for a day or two). The problem goes away but then comes back, especially on hot humid days. I live in Toronto and the weather is VERY humid in the summer. The last time the problem came back (one week ago) it hasn't gone away since, but something that came to mind is that I have a silica gel pack in the camera's bag and when I put it away it seems to work the next time I want to use it. Tonight I try the silica gel pack in the camera itself (while open of course) and keep you guys updated in case it's successful!

I have got the same problem, condensation - operation paused. Goes away after an hour, comes back regular as clockwork. From what I've now read on the web it's a design fault. A group of people are taking JVC to court over this and another error. Bascially their cameras appear to be scrap. Sorry, no solution, if you find one please let me know.

Well, between using a fan on it , thenhesitantlyexposing it to some small distant heat, I was able to bring the camera into another mode.It now says"condensation paused', but the camera is still locked in safe mode, and says to remove the power source and , by a message from JVC tech support, they said at the same time you power it up , to be pressing the eject button. But that still didn't work! and they said if that didn't work it needs to go to an authorized JVC service center.I know my service centers around here, and just to look at something cost $100.00, and that's without fxing it.If however, you go for the price they give you to repair it, then your initial fee will go towards the repair. So, I'm still trying to find another way, before I do that.Somewhere I read that you should clean the heads. So, i did that once already. Now, i keep looking inside with a jewelers' light and glasses, but I can't see a speck of anything that needs to be cleaned. I know, throughout this time , the battery has run down ond the message that comes up after"camera in safe mode says to remove and reattatch battery after a minute. However, I don't have a battery recharger, so i can't do that any longer.i did do it while the battery was still charged, but it never helped. So now I'm using the AC cord to power up the camera.Surely this should work the same way, as a power source. So, i keep on attatching and detatching the power cord ...to no avail. But I also read on some other site, that sometimes it takes the camera time to process this. And sometimes a nice knock on the body, kicks it into gear. Of all I've been learning, i now have enough knowledge not to recommend a JVC mini camcorder period. And, even all of these mini dv cam's seem to have plenty of problems. With their error messages etc. they seem to be doomed to be in service before too long. Any other suggestions, though, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Layne

Just leave this in a dry place. Silica Gel crystals packed in a cloth bag around the camera can absorb the moisture. They are available in a Photographic shop
