Sony Dig8 HandyCam Error C:31:40?

John Posted Jul 12, 2004

How do I recover from error C:31:40 on a Sony DCRTRV330 Digital 8 HandyCam?

My Sony HandyCam DCR-TRV330 flashes diagnostic code C:31:40. Anyone know what it means or how to recover from it? Anyone know where I can buy a service manual for it? I tried removing/reinserting the tape, removing/restoring power sources, and just letting it set open to dry out...all the stuff the owner's manual and Sony website say to try. No joy. Any ideas would be welcome.

Bhè, devo dire che ero assai scettico. Ma dopo aver dato 3-4 colpetti sul lato del vano cassetta...FUNZIONA!!! Ma che storia è questa? Qualcuno è in grado di spiegarlo?

What an amazing repair is effected by a few loving slaps! My DCR-HC42E was playing up with C:31:40 et al. 8 playful slaps on the side remined it of who's the boss!

I tried shaking, smacking it, removing the battery, but the hairdryer was what finally worked. Thank you Al Gore for inventing this internet thingy where we can repair complex electronic devices with a hairdryer and a bitch slap.

Another camera thumper joins the club! My TRV900 displayed both C:31:21 and at other times C:31:40. I tried everything I could think of, but no joy. It sat in a cupboard for over a year. Today I read this thread, got to whacking, and HEY PRESTO! Thank you thank you thank you all ! PS I bust the thin housing for the battery doing it so be careful, but THAT was the strike that also got the cam working. LOL! The camera was $900. . . the battery was $20. No complaints here.

I have this Sony Dig Handycam DCR-TRV315 NTSC and the tape doesnt want to fill in the socket giving me the error C:31:40....I tried your stuff in this web site and guess what? It worked out!!! But I think that it must be something else because I live in the carribean and I locked my camera for a while in a conditioning air room for a couple of hours and I think thats where the problem came from. The camera was with the error and the when I tried to throw it to the floor then worked again. I didnt noticed that was the way to fix this error!!!! But recently I was in the USA and i cried a lot because it has this error tickling in the camera. it is winter season right now and I throught that it may be something with the cool air??????? I lost a few very good moments there but then I can comeback over there, shake a lil bit my (oldie) cam, and then enjoy!!! Thanks a lot!!!!
