If anyone has succesfully used an external edit controller in place of the Sony EVO-9700's supplied edit controller, I would appreciate the benefit of your experience.

I am exploring the possibility of interfacing a Videonics AB-1 (A/B Roll Edit Controller) to a Sony EVO-9700 Hi-8 VCR. The AB-1 supports four interfaces: Sony Control-L (LANC), Panasonic 5-pin (Control M), RS-232, & RS-422 and three time codes: LTC, VITC, & RCTC. However I cannot find any information in the manuals about the control interface (the EVO-9700 has it own, dedicated edit controller) or the cable that would be required to carry the control signal. Any assistance you could provide would be appreciated.
