Converting old VHS home movies to CD,DVD, etc

Millard Richardson Posted Nov 10, 2004

How can I convert old home VHS home movies to CD,DVD, etc?

I have many home movies on VHS format that I want to convert to CD, DVD, etc to preserve them. I am not very computer literate but I try my best. Please tell me what I need to do to accomplish this goal. Thank you very much. M.P.

If you want to use a PC, you'll have to get a Analog-to-Digital converter. I did the research and found the Canopus ADVC300 is the best choice for home users. I bought one myself and it works great. You can get the ADVC100 if you have a limited budget and can sacrifice some of the more advanced features on the ADVC300. I bought mine new off ebay for $185. They are readily available. Have fun.

the easy way to do it, if you are not good at the computer is a DVD recorder. You simply attach the video and audio out of the vhs recorder to the video and audio input of the dvd recorder and press record and you have made a dvd. You can even make chapters just by pushing stop. You can buy the recorders by panasonic, sony and philips new. I can even sell you a used on at a reasonable price if you wish. cdtolino@earthlink.net
