sony vx2100 problem

My camera is approx. 3 months old and it tears or burns the tape when you rewind. It does not do it always and recording seems fine. I spoke to Sony (consumer) and they want 200.00 to look at it. Our local electronics techs won't look at it. Any suggestions what to do? Burlington Vt. Grant Allendorf
