C:31:30 does anyone know what this error message means?

exremeski Posted Dec 09, 2004

My Sony TRV11e could be on its last legs. It won't let me remove the dv cassette and makes a high speed wirring noise when I switch it on. I then get this error message- C:31:30

Has anyone else experienced this error message on their sony camcorders? Has anyone had problems with the loading and ejecting mechanisms for the dv tapes- are these problems repairable or do I need to give the camera its last rites? Any recommendations in the South East of the UK for a decent repair job?

I followed Dave's advice, and it worked! I don't know how long it will last, but at least I managed to get a very important tape out. That's technology for you...

The error code table lists C:31:30 as: "FG fault when starting capstan." (the 'C' indicates consumer-fixable (yeah-right); the "31" indicates the fix method (remove casette; remove battery); the "30" indicates the specific fault that was observed (the capstan motor FG signal). The "FG" signal from the capstan motor is the tachometer signal that the camera uses to monitor the rotation of the capstan. There isn't any further discussion of the problem
