help with safeguard mode

Everytime i turn on my camera (JVC Digital Video Camera Model No. GR-D30U), it says : "Unit in Safegurad Mode, Remove and Reattach Battery". The camera will only turn on when it is charging. I think i may have fried the battery. How can i fix this?
