Power Switch Problem

C926 Capacitor Replacement

I just want to start out with thanking Tom Pajaewski and this forum!!!! I was about to throw away my JVC AV 27980 TV because the power would not come on. I called JVC and they told me there were no known issues about this model TV and they told me to take it to the nearest JVC service center to have it looked at. The TV was about five years old and I knew it was going to cost me an arm and a leg to have it looked at so I got on my computer and found this forum. I unpluged my TV and took it apart I looked up the C296 capacitor on the motherboard because it is numbred on the board. I then heated up the solder and pulled the old capacitor out. I took the new (1000uf 35V) capacitor and put it into the two holes in the motherboard that were left after I pulled the old one out. I made sure to put the new one back in just like the old one was because ther is a positive,or arrow side and a negative side and you have to put them in the right holes. I then heated the board back up and soldered the new one in place after making sure all the wires I disconnected were put back together just like they were when I opend it up. I plugged it in and it fired right up with no problem. I will tell you if you decide to do this project on your own to be careful. The TV can still hold a charge of power even after you unplug it, in other words it can still shock the crap out of you!!! "SO BE CAREFUL" I did not have any prior knowlege of working on TV's and I had no problems and it only took about 20 min. so if I can do it you can too!!! It will save you a couple of hundred dollars. I would like to thank Tom Pajaewski and every one on this forum once again!!!! THANK YOU!!! Watching TV in Alabama, I think JVC should step up and admit this is a defective capacitor issue!!! Thanks again!!!!

Hi, Jeff Wiggins, Thank you for your MSG and other people's MSG about JVC AV-xx980 Power Switch Problem, I followed your step and fixed my JVC AV27980 TV. This morning my TV simply could not power on, I opened TV, the fuse is OK, then I followed your instruction to find Capacitor C926, exam it, I saw the top of the can of the capacitor was bulged, that means the capacitor is bad, normaly it is flat. I bought a 1000 uF 35V Electrolytic capacitor from Ridio Shake, part num272-1032, spent $1.59 for it, and replace the bad one, it work now. Thanks. Lin
