Display problems

I recently bought a used car with a kd s580 cd player in it and while the unit seems to work fine none of the function buttons do and the display is garbled as if it were written in another language (other than English). I have cleaned the connectors and even borrowed a friend's faceplate but his did the same thing. The cd player works but you can't eject it using the buttons. Any suggestions.
