Sony DCR TRV 250 digital camcorder

Deepak Patel Posted Apr 09, 2005

Sony DCR TRV 250 digital camera is a very third class quality digital camera because

I had bought it recently few months ago means in June 2004 and after 10 months when I tried to started camera view finder shows black screen. So I tried LCD which also shows black screen. I told sony technical support they said that CCD must be changed. I told them that it is under warranty then they told me that only 3 months warranty for CCD. So I advice people who rely on Sony. Dont' buy any Sony things.

(i've posted this on Cnert reviews also) i have the same black screen problem with the Sony TRV22 (where it can only playback and NOT record - which is usually the function of a TV). I've had it for about two years now. After the 9th month it stopped working for a day (which was the end of my honeymoon) and then the next day it was working fine.. strange.. Then 6 months later it stopped working again, but this time for good. After reading thru all the posts it seems like i was lucky to get a little over year out of it! YAY! and now I have a $600 2 inch TV!(that only plays miniDV) anyway, Strauss Repair Center (in Washington DC) said they would repair it for $270. i told them no way. It seems like Sony gambled by using a cheap component in their cameras.. and hopefully now its going to backfire in their face because more and more people are coming forward with complaints.

I have the same problem with a Sony trv118. After 15 months of excellent care , it suddenly won't record. Theres a black screen with a white stripe on it. I have trusted Sony for years, and have paid higher prices to get a product with the Sony name on it many times. I won't do it again though. I have not called the company yet, but I assume I will get the same response you others got. I could buy a new one of the same camera for around $200.00, so I sure am not going to pay $269.00 plus shipping for a repair. If any Sony reps read these threads, know that you lost a longtime loyal customer. Start selling quality products again instead of the junk you are putting out now.

I've had the same problems blank screens. The Camera repair shop told me it was the Lense..it cost 270 to fix! I only had the freakin thing for a year! My inlaws bought the DCR-TRV22..same problem after almost a year to the date AND only a few hours of use! No more Sony for me!

I have the same camera mine went black screen after three months. I got the same reply when I called sony, "send the camera and $250+ for repair." Sounds to me like this model had a defect and sony is'nt standing behind it's product, and instead decided to make more money fleecing it's customers with outrages repair fees. No more sony products for me.

I have the same camera. My camcorder was purchased Dec 2003. I thought this was a nice camcorder when it worked. The view finder and the LCD screen are black when trying to video. I have done a search for this problem online and have found this is a common problem. I called tech support who ran me through a manual reset which had no affect. He said it would need to be sent for repair. It is out of warranty so the cost is a standard $269.00 which does not include shipping. It is outragous to have a product that should last for years fail while it is still brand new. It makes me realize in this high tech era one should always go with an extended warrenty and purchase from companies who stand behind their products. We are now looking for a new camcorder. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks, Pattie
