There is no picture (black screen appears) in the viewfinder and LCD when I attempt to record

My Sony CCD TRV118 was working fine and, all of a sudden, when I turn it on, its viewfinder and LCD turn black. Now if I try to record something it only records the sound but there is no image. I reset the camera but has no luck. Is there anything I can do before having to take it to repair ? Thanks !
