JVC error code SOLUTION!!!

Karel Posted May 24, 2005

Eureka - finally a solution to the JVC codes!

I had a major problem with my JVC GR-DVP7 camcorder where the EO "4" code kept on appearing and a flashing indicator saying to remove the battery appeared in the LCD screen. It appears that I may have dropped the camcorder as there was a strange clicking sound of the cog wheels when the cassette cartridge opened and closed, and the tape was being chewed up. Despite my many attempts to remove and replace the battery the camcorder refused to work! However I was determined to get to the problem and looked at the area where there was some noise ( clicking of the cog wheels). I opened the cassette cartrigde exposing the inner mechanisms and used my index finger to gently manipulate the wheels and to push some of the mechanisms back and forth. After doing this the sound was not as loud (but it was still there) and the cassette cartridge was closing a little easier. Anyway, the next morning I put in a tape to do another test…and lo and behold the camcorder worked perfectly(with a slight noise still being heard) and most importantly NO ‘EO” code appearing!!! After some 2 weeks of operation the camcorder is working just as good as before with the sound almost gone completely....and no EO code in sight! I must caution that this is not the best repair solution but it worked for me; also I'm not in the US or Europe so camcorder help is very hard to find...this was a deseparate attempt that worked. My guess is that the alignment in these tiny devices may get thrown off now and then by shakes and drops and a little finger manipulation will easily get the unit back on track. Best of Luck all!
