Re: Sony HCD551 model

gary ridenour Posted Jun 13, 2005, in response to:Deepak

im a retired sony tech. worked on tons of these. look for the rear amp IC to be shorted. was a common problem. the unit is probably in the protect mode. how can you tell??? at power on you hear 1 click. ac line relay. this is followed by a 2nd click. speaker protect relay. if you hear a 2nd then 3rd click, its going into protect. if you dont hear the 2nd click check for DC voltage on speaker protect relay coil. you will need service manual and test equipment. luck

I have a similar issue with a Sony HCD-S300, DVD with digital amp. Absolutely no sound, via speakers or phones socket. When I turn on I hear the relays RY301, 331 & 361 click together once, if I plug in headphones to the phones socket the relays switch again. If the headphones are in there is no relay activation on power up and down. There are no other relay activations. Removing the PROTECT PWB, does not allow the relays to switch, no affect on sound. I am looking for assistance to figuring why the sound has suddenly gone. PS All other operations appear to working fine. Mark

I hear the first and second clicks on my unit and the a brief sound of music and then no sound. the unit stays on like it always has but no sound at all. Is there a way to fix this or is it even work messing with? Hope you are still out there. Looks to be an old post. John
