Re[2]: Error Message on SONY GV-200

Gonzo Granello Posted Jul 05, 2005, in response to:David Noyes

Dave, e-mail me direct for schematics etc. I copy/scan the page(s) covering the adjustments (which indeed are not adjustable as it seems) - maybe you can figure it out. In short, there is a 5 pin connector on the circuit board where the power, play and other switches are. This connector is a diagnostic connector which when shorted in a certain way will turn on the low batt "adjustment" and all the options are to save the value displayed in the eeprom. Assuming that part of the adjustment is the input voltage set to a certain level from a stabilized power source - I assume that is what is used as reference and that makes sense in a way. What does not make sense is that there is absolutley no description of what to do if the value is grossly off - other than replacing the eeprom (hence get rid of data that is there) which makes not much sense to me since the eeprom normally stores data and does not measure voltage values.... Anyway, send me a short email and i will help out with the manual as best as i can. I just remembered one more issue with all those units i read about somewhere, appearently it is a known fact that sony used defective caps that can and will leak over time. Most of the 100uF caps did leak and I changed them as well as cleaned the circuit board and checked for defective traces as good as possible, that appearently did not fix the issue however it should help long term sinc i think the fluid from the caps is aggressive (acid?). Thanks GG
