Problems with dcr-trv 250

I bought a sony dcr-trv 250 camera in November 2003 right before I had my baby girl. I absolutely loved the camera. I filmed her birthday in Jan 2005 and then the next time I turned it on it showed a black screen. Then I opened the LCD screen and still black. I called Sony and they directed me through a reset process, and the camera still did the same thing. I am so upset. My warranty was only two months expired, and I had not bought an extended warranty. Sony wanted to charge me $269 standard rate to fix it. I filled out their customer satisfaction survey and let them know I will never ever ever buy another sony again. That just makes me so sick. I had charged the camera on my credit card and hadn't even finished paying for it yet. Now I don't know what kind of camera to buy. Any suggestions? I was able to film my daughters whole first year until her birthday, but have already missed out filming 6 months of her second year. She has changed and grown so much, and I wanted to capture her memories for her. We should file a class action lawsuit against Sony!
