How do I set the channels for stations above channel 53. The TV was manufactured in 1990 or thereabouts.

When I use the remote, from the menu page 3 I select No. 8 then push 1 for add, where do I go from there. If I try to set channel 54, I get nothing. I guess I need a procedure to follow, but I don't know the procedure. Can you help me. Thank you for your help.
