This appears to be a common problem - reallyloooks like a manufacturer's defect ??? Please recommend if it's repairable at anything close to reasonable cost - or should it be donated to TV HELL ??? What's a better brand ???? Sony costs more.... FOR WHAT ??? Many thanks, y'all. Buford, Austin, TX

12/24/07.. My beloved Sony 27'just went from working great too totally dead. Stanby light is blinking. I've only bought Sony TV's since 1998. I have a sony LCD 51' inch thats works great and a sony rp 36 inch that's still working. The 27 was in my bedroom...I might buy a visio to replace it. FYI- Don't buy a sony digital camera..Already bought 2, both have broke within 2 yrs... so I'm like the rest of you. thought sony ruled. turns out that they're no better. either way, I had my KV-27 from 98/99 go blinking twice (supposedly the power supply) and in the other den I had a 57" sony projection hdtv turn bright blue and power off within the same week - 11/19. wish there wer a consumer hotline or some junk that we could call. what a joke... Another one bites the dust. Manufactured 1999, the flashing light of death 15 Nov 2007. Good grief! Same TV.Same problem! It sounds to me like the whole thing is planned to quit working after 7 years. I'm really dissapointed in Sony and don't think I will be purchasing another one. It's too bad. I thought they had integrity. Thanks for clearing this up for me. My nine year old Sony KV-27240 expired at 6:28 PM 09/12/07. No sound, no picture. Stand By/Timer light blinks 4 short blinks, there is a pause, then 4 more blinks. Connected to a FIOS set top box. Based upon posts here, this appears to be a common problem. 4 blink code must mean something, but can not put my hands on manual. Not sure I should drop $100 to 200 to fix this analog set manufactured in September 1998. Set has been flawless till now, did expect it to last longer, but maybe I'm expecting too much. Jeepers, my 1968 Trinitron set just died. I'm going to sue the pants off of them. It stopped working, out of the blue, after 40 years. They sure don't make 'em like they used to. My Sony Trinitron also just gave out... Small "click", then black screen, no sound and LED blinking. Bought mine in late 1999... After reading all these postings, I will definately NOT buy a Sony again. Well mine is out 36inch flat hd 2001 I think. Great tv until i went to turn it on--no sound no picture red light flash 7 times before pause-wondering if i should fix it! We purchased our KV-27V40 in 1998 (just like everyone else on this board). This can't be a coincidence! I'd rather use the repair money to buy a newer tv that's better and costs less. Same problem, that's the last time I buy Sony! I nearly got carpal tunnel in my finger trying to revive it. I heard that unplugging it for a couple of days may work, but DON'T EVER TURN IT OFF AGAIN. |
