Sony DCR HC32 vs. HC42.

Paul Posted Oct 14, 2005

What are the benefits of the HC42 compared to the HC32 (gadgets and still-image not important)?

I want to buy one of these cams. The HC42 has only 12x optical zoom compared to the 20x zoom of the HC32. To me the size of the lcd screen, the design and gadgets are of less importance. I care about optical qualities, resolution (not still-images). Is there a reason for me to get the HC42? Thanks!

Hey Paul, The HC-42 has a larger sensor chip than the HC-32, meaning the images will be less noisey and perform better in low light. The less optical and digital zoom is not a major factor because buyers of larger or multiple chip camcorders typically want wide angle shot (more in the picture) than zoomed shots. High zooms are more for the user than doesn't have access to certain shots, or doesn't like to move around for shots. Nick
