Re: There goes another one - 7 yr. old Sony KV-27V40 DEAD !

Grover Posted Nov 15, 2005, in response to:G. Wood

OK Guys, Here's the soln for this problem. As some of us on this forum know that the reason for this problem is the factory soldered joints on the printed circuit board become loose 'coz of excessive heat, bumps and regular wear 'n tear, 'coz of which the TV asks for service. My SONY repair work shop was charging me $168 for getting this done but I didn't want to spend that much money for a 7 yr old. So I got it back to sell it to some local electronics shop. Listed below are the parts to be replaced and services that need to be performed 1. PCB repaired around T501 - i.e resolder the joints around transistor T501 2. Replacement of transistor Q502 3. Replacement of IC601 (an IC i.e Integrated Chip) 4. Replacement of R606 (seems to be a resistor) These parts can be order from FOX (a SONY parts distributor) at 800-321-6993. This SONY auth. center charged me $29.50 for this initial estimate. Well, don't waste your money any further on getting this TV repaired as these shops wil charge you anywhere between $150 - $200 for this whereas you can anyday get a newer model of the same size with flat screen for $250-$300 or an open box item for any such flat screen for $160-$200. I just got a SONY Trinitron, NEW, OPEN BOX flat ascreen 27" for $165+$15 (Handling). I think it's a great deal. I know my brother in law has the same TV and he paid $800 approx 4 yrs back. I got my TV back from this shop thereby forfeiting the $29,50, but then I thought that I can put all this explanation and experience on the website and might be it helps somebody out there. So guys, if it does help you out, then please post your comments here.

I checked the part nos and their related desc. . Below are the folowing 1. T501 is not a transistor BUT a TRANSFORMER 2. Q502 is a Transistor - Part No. - 8-729-043-43 - Transistor 2SC5426-01 3. R606 Part No. - 1-220-926-11 FUSIBLE - 0.47, 5%, 1/2W, F I've uploaded the following SONy Service Manual which might throw some light on it.
