Sony TV 'Blinking' problem

Ryan Posted Dec 11, 2005

32" Sony TV - blinking issues

Hi all. I have a Sony 32" tv thats several years old. When the tv is turned on it blinks in and out ( picture is visible then blinks off ). Sound stays constant. Sometimes, eventually the picture stays on but its intermittent. I read somewhere about it possibly being the flyback transformer. Any ideas appreciated as well as where to buy the recommended parts. Thanks Ryan

Hi, I have the same problem that everyone else has, my tv is coming up on 11 yrs old. It blinks every 3 secs when i first turn it on, then as its is on longer it blinks once every 30 secs. After about 20 mins of being on it doesnt blink at all. Is this fix you all are doing going to do anything for me or should i just let it warm up before I watch every time?

i have a larger rear projection screen as does dawn. and when the screen is on, it takes a few minutes in, then starts blinking, or rather blanking out, and i noticed that the "TIMER" LED display on the front of the unit blinks the same time the screen blanks out. HELP!! I dont think thered be such a knob screw on a rear projection, need to know if anyone had experienced having a repair done with the same problem. Also i bought it for $60 knowing the problem existed, do i now own a boat anchor?

Having the same problem with my Sony TV. Do you have to do the same thing to fix a 53" rear projection TV?

I can't find the black knobs...Are they on the picture tube or one of the other boards?

The adjustment you are looking for is on the flyback transformer. On my set the flyback is at the bottom to the right of center. There should be 2 adjustments on the flyback assembly -the one at the bottom is what you are looking for. Mine has a white material on it for knowing where it is set at the factory. The best way to adjust it is to turn on the TV, get a black screen, and adjust it clockwise a tiny bit until you see retrace lines (diagonal lines). Then back it off until you don't see the lines anymore. All you have done is increased the current to the CRT cathodes enough so that the detection circuit is satisfied and it doesn't do a video blank. Of course this is a cheap trick to squeeze a little more life out of a dying CRT.

I appear to be the only person having trouble finding the black knobs...are the on the picture tube or one of the circuit boards?

Hello all; Well, my Sony 32" TV just went dead on me after just 2 weeks of blinking in and out as you've all described on this message board. I guess it's pointless trying to turn the knob now at this stage. Does this definitely mean my picture tube is Shot or could it still possibly be another problem?
