Older XBR -- to fix, or junk?

Joe Posted Dec 13, 2005

Does it make sense to fix it?

I wasn't quite ready ready to get a decent HD LCD screen -- maybe in about six months -- but my KV-32XBR100 (bought about 10 yrs ago) has died on me. When turned on, there's a thin horizontal streak for a second or so, then no raster at all. I'm just assuming that it's the flyback. There was some horiz banding for the last few months, perhaps a hint of the failure to come. I happen to have a service manual for this set. Assuming I could find a new flyback for a reasonnable price, is it worth my time and effort? TIA for any and all advice. MJE

Hey Joe, mine is starting to go as well - It still works but there are these burst of noise and then sometimes goes black - it always starts again when I turn it off and then on again - but today a service guy told me he thought it was the flyback transformer and that you can't get replacements for those anymore...I hate to believe it and would like to try. I would appreciate it if you get any leads on how to find these transformers. Let me know what you wind up doing - I am not ready to give the TV up yet! V
