Sony big screen TV problems with picture

Turned on the TV yesterday and the picture was blurry, purplish/redish colored, and there were wavy horizontal lines through the screen. The lines seem to have disappeared now but other problems remain. The purple hue is over the whole screen and fades to normal color and then back to the purple again. Last new thing is when you power off the TV there is a big green cat-eye shaped blob in the middle of the screen. TV was bought new in 2005. Has anyone else had this problem? I am looking to find out if this is something that can be fixed and if so how expensive will the fix be.
