Only emits sound when the volume is maxed out, Please help diagnose this.

Kenwood KR-V76R Stereo Receiver works fine except for the sound coming out of it. When the volume is very low, no sound comes out at all, but as it is increased there is a crackling and you can hear some of the signal, finally when the volume is maxed out the clean signal breaks through, but of course it is at maximum volume which hurts your ears greatly. Thank you in advance for any help that can be provided. I just need to know what to replace.
