If the serial number begins with "90", this set was manufactured with faulty CRTs. The most common symptom is a flicker (Google "Sony Flicker" and you'll get plenty of hits) but as the CRTs go bad you can see lines, flashes of color, and/or the television turning itself off. Research the flicker problem and if your set is affected get ready for a long, hard, fight to get it fixed. Sony will repair it under warrantee, but only if you are persistent.
