holding a charge

My JVC Camcorder GR-DVL120U charges up in full and then I go to use it and there is no battery life. Basically, it seem that it is not holding a charge. Is it time for a new battery or is there something that the canmcorder is doing that is draining the battery. No, I am not leaving the camcorder on by accident. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
