Can't turn on power

My power lever does not work anymore. For a while it felt like it had some sand in it (I let my son borrow it). Now when I push it, nothing happens. Anyone know how to disassemble the control button top to see if it can be repaired? Current cost to send it to Sony is $180.00. I can't get any local repair to give me an estimate.
