Georgia Posted Apr 13, 2006

MY display works when review photos but if I try to take a picture it is only black on the screen...and the photo comes out black

I have taken it apart to see if there was any obvious connection lose -- do you have any idea what this problem could be?? Thanks, Georgia

Hello, I have a Sony DSC-P72 that the LCD display died after less than 2 years. I had the same problems you describe-blank LCD, but all other features seemed to be working fine, pictures come out black.I called Sony repair and they quoted me a flat rate repair charge of 173.00 plus shipping (Ridiculous!!) I told them to stick it and bought a new Kodak digital instead. I received an email from Sony registration about 2 weeks ago stating that there is a class action lawsuit against Sony for abnormally high failure of the LCD display on a whole bunch of their digital still and video cameras. The court date is set for June 22 and if the ruling goes against Sony you will be eligible for reimbursement for the repair cost. I will forward the email if you send me a request at marks43@adelphia.net. You can buy the LCD replacement module ( part #875305223) for about $100.00 US from www.partstore.com. It is easy to replace. Hope this helps. Mark

Thanks for the info! In the process of trying to find info I did run across the class action suit and also the Sony webpage for the repair for no cost...I am awaiting to hear back from them. Thanks again! Georgia

Hi, My last post indicated the wrong part # for your LCD replacement, but if you go to www.partsore.com, you can look it up by camera model #. Sorry about that! Mark
