HI, My Sony receiver does exactly the same thing only it flashes for no apparent reason. The 'PROTECT' message comes on randomly, sometimes when I've been listening to music for a while, sometimes as soon as I start it up. The message appears even when there's nothing at all plugged into the receiver. The only way to make it go away seems to be unplugging the thing and waiting a couple of hours. Then it will turn on. Its still under warrantee for me so I think I'll try and take it back. David
