hi mr.rob!!!!! the truth is that i have no idea that i need to have that firewire and video downloader..what i know is that,if you bought a brand new camcorder,it includes the supporting softwares thats why i rely on it.by the way,can you recomend me a certain brand thats surely fits to my camcorder"DVL 820u"..and i'm using winXp on my computer. thank you very much and more power..... truly yours hamlet

    ham; sorry I can't help you there. bought same camera 2 yrs ago and had to go to computer shop for them to get and install something called FireWire card and cable. They recommended diff video editor than supplied with camc. Don't know what brand or anything, since I don't touch inside of these itty bitty machines. Editor name is Ulead Video Studio 7. The jvc 820u works great and the software is easy to use for various editing. Very good camera for $300, used. Remote not easy to understand, but who needs it. Better see a computer shop. Cost me less than $45. Gd luck. Robbie
