Your Help Please

When I switch on it works fine for a short time, then menu items pop onto the screen and red light flashes continuously, remote will not operate now.Only thing to do is switch off manually from front of TV and leave for a while before switching on again.The length of time for which it works is getting shorter.When menu boxes appear the picture and sound go.
