Sony DSC-S40 LCD problem

Only shows dark shadows on LCD screen.

I'm having a problem with the LCD screen on my Sony DSC-S40. When turned on, the LCD only shows dark shadows. You can detect movement, but cannot see what is on the screen. Almost as if a light were not turned on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Upon further inspection of the inside of the camera...there is a part behind the LCD screen itself that seems to be the cause of the problem. If I hold up the LCD itself against a light source, I can view the LCD.
  
  Does anyone know anything about what part that could be so that I can replace it or what I can do to fix it?
