Compact Camcorder

We have a JVC GR-AX940U camcorder and when you turn it on the screen is black like no power however the power is on the same thing when try to record and when try to replay. I have tried useing different battery and even just useing the power cord and nothing still. Mother in Law purchased it for us on QVC years ago and I think we have only used it really about 5 times and went to use it and cant even look thru it ...just blackness....HEEEELPPPPP. TY
