White screen

Have experienced same white screen problem with DSC-S40 camera. Won camera at work, via drawing, for having worked safely and violation free in 2005. Like the camera very much and still getting used to all the features. Batteries do not last the 110 shots, as stated per Sony. Please forward solution for white screen fix. Thank You.
