Sony DSC F707: won't focus

Sony DSC F707: doesn't focus

I dropped the camera from about 3 feet (while in a camera bag). Turned the camera on and all the functions seemed to work. However, when I went to take a picture the image was blurred. The camera will not focus on anything (near or far). Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

This may not be the answer but it is a possibility. You have to understand how the IR filter functions. In front of the CCD is a rectangular filter which slides in front in normal mode and out of the way in nightshot mode. It is moved by a little half gear turned by a solenoid which looks like a tiny motor. This solenoid has two positions and stays latched on whichever state it moves to whether by a voltage to the coil or if you could get in there and physically move it. Once its in one position or the other that's whee it stays until the computer pulses the solenoid. If say a sudden deceleration moved it assuming the camera hit the ground in precisely the correct orientation that the weight of the filter made it slide, turning the solenoid to the other position where the filter will stay until the camera tells it to move. Which will not occur unless you enter nightshot mode. Then no matter which position it is in it will be moved (or stay if already there - unlikely with your problem) to where it should be. In short, cycle back and forth between normal and nightshot and then try your focus again. The reason for this is in the computer is a code which alters the focus when the IR cut filter is in the way of the light path to compensate for the slight alteration of focus caused by the filter itself. Otherwise in normal or nightshot focus will be off one or the other. If you followed this you figure out which. If this mode cycling does not help then internal parts have shifted and it's shop time. If you give up sell it to me for parts I need a ribbon cable for a dead 707 I have. On this note since I do not have the device Sony used to alter codes in the CPU itself to reprogram the focus in normal mode maybe someone can help me. I removed the IR filter and altered the circuitry so the camera can function as an xray camera but I am still fighting this myself. Meaning in normal mode the camera will not focus. I do not have the programmer the factory used to build or repair these so I am studying how I can fix this focus problem. I really do not want to alter the position of a lens or space the CCD until it focuses in normal mode minus the IR filter so I am wondering if anyone has a magic cure for this?
