Re[3]: Sony Trinitron TVs

peggy macintyre Posted Oct 11, 2006, in response to:dmj

I may have somewhat solved my Tv just going black, I took the back off(I figured if I killed it for sure -oh well-no big loss) When I pulled it the guts out, I heard a click & the picture came on. So I left it like that and the TV worked & the picture stayed. Figure that!!! It only went off when I moved the tv or the cable. I figure there is a broken switch,or burned out thingy right in the front (like where the remote contols are) .ALSO COULD HAVE BEEN DUST OR OVERHEATED.???? I really don't know. But the back off it seemed to work.Lift it all up & down easily. You will probably have to play around with it to get the right position, but it will stay on . Don't get me wrong , it still will go black (still with sound)but not near as much as it did, I just click it off & on again ,and it stays on for weeks or longer. (PS) I can't get the back cover back on or it will go off .Also I'm not a tecnition by no means, I just gave it one last shot, if it didn't do anything I was going to toss it to the curb. I got lucy, but it's a very deadly thing to do especially when it's plugged in, be very slow and delicate.(USE NO TOOLS) So now it sits in the stand with no back cover.it stays on now for over a month so far. It's not too too bad , it's in the rec room, so it's not visable to everyone. Hope it helps to get a few mor years out of the thing.

Thanks for the post. However, putting your hands inside a TV set when its on is EXTREMELY dangerous. You could be electrocuted. My Sony Trinitron is doing the same thing. I suspect it might be a dust problem. I'll buy one of those PC air products that blows out dust and apply it to the inside of the TV, with the power OFF.
