SONY KV35S40

Jackson Posted Nov 25, 2006

Similar problems to others on this site where power circuit blows-spent $300 to fix & 2 days went out again.

Set was purchased in Oct 99. Two weeks ago suddenly set dies. No picture, no sound. Had Sony factory repair people out, said this is a very common problem with these and other Trinitrons... Went to Sony Canada's website to give them feedback, and they claim they never heard of this problem! Since the thing went out again (re-work is covered by 90 day warranty), I've been having second thoughts about the repair. Feel it may be better to put the $300 into a new replacement TV, definately not a Sony. Feel their quality has deteriorated. When I bought the set in '99 I thought I was buying quality and would be good for 10-12 years. In my view this was a major design/engineering/component issue and Sony failed to address it! So what does this past performance tell you about Sony quality? And they don't stand behind their product.
