About VOB

VOB stands for DVD Video Object. It is basically one of the core files found on DVD-Video discs and contains the actual movie data. The audio/video container format for DVD, supports multi-video ,multi-track, and multi-title etc. A VOB file (DVD- V ideo Ob ject) is a file type contained in DVD-Video media. It contains the actual Video , Audio , Subtitle and Menu contents in stream form. Basically VOB file is just a basic MPEG-2 system stream -- meaning that it is a file that contains multiplexed MPEG-2 video stream, audio streams (normally AC3 and DTS formats) and subtitle streams. In order to view stand-alone VOB files, you need to have a DVD player software that supports VOB playback. A good, open source tool for this is Media Player Classic. If you wish to burn the VOB files to a standard DVDR disc, you need to have all the other standard DVD files as well, including IFO and BUP files. If you have all of the required files, you can follow this guide in order to do so with useful tools, such as xilisoft video converter,a useful software, which either supports converting video file between DVD, VCD, SVCD, MOV, RM, AVI, MPEG, WMV, 3GP, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, H.264/PSP AVC etc. or provides an easy way to convert video file to popular audio file, including MP2, MP3, AC3, RA, M4A, OGG, AAC etc. VOB files are encoded very much like standard MPEG-2 files. When the extension is renamed from .vob to . mpg or . mpeg the file will still be readable and will continue to hold all information, although most players supporting MPEG-2 don't support subtitle tracks. In order to burn the VOB files to a DVD±R disc, other standard DVD-Video files are needed as well, including IFO and BUP files. Someone told me he edit the video if he can get it into Pinnacle Studio 10,which he’s fairly proficient at.But the dilemma is that he can’t get anything from Media Player into Studio 10. When he tricks the VOBs into thinking that they are MPGs and open them in S10, he just gets the first part of the file but not the entire thing that I can see in WMP. He’s about to give up, but the fact that he can see the entire file in WMP keeps teasing me that the information is there. he just can’t figure out how to get it out and onto S10.In my opion, what he can do is the transition of VOB to another format such as AVI or something he can work with it.Just a useful tool,is it?
