Problem w/ Panasonic SA-HT700

Dan Posted Dec 11, 2006

Unit is locked up / frozen. Panasonic SA-HT700 5 disc DVD changer w/ surround sound.

I was watching a DVD and all of a sudden the picture went out and a loud squeel was coming from the unit. I could not stop the DVD, so I powered off then back on to get the DVD out. Now I cannot get the unit to do anything (TV,Radio) or anything. I powered off then back on again and all it says on the display is "please wait" and the only response I get is when I hit the power button, no other buttons are working. Not even to open the tray. Is this thing toast?

I solve turn off every time I don't use.... I think that problem is caused because the dvd is hot.

I had exactly the same problem and this advice SOLVED the problem!the top comes off easily( a few screws)...remove the stuck or derailed dvd/cd and gently jiggle the carousel...then press open/close button...it should resolve. thanks guys!!

I was the original poster. I took the unit to several local Panasonic repair stations and no could fix it for less than $300-400. And my home owners would cover it but my deductible is $500. So I just bought a new LG unit and I have been very pleased so far.

Wow! So I'm not the only one. The same squeel thing happened to me, now the system doesn't work at all! I don't get any audio for nothing. The DVD Player never worked, so forget that. All I cared about was my music anyways... I just would like to know if panasonic is willing to fix or replace it. Do anyone have any information on that? Please Help! :( - Samuel

Opening the dvd player and removing the dvds and then restarting also worked for me. Thanks so much for the suggestion.

This also happened to me. What happened to me was the dvd was knocked off the tray. All I did was opened the dvd player, removed the dvd, and closed the player back up and it works fine. Not sure if this will work for you.
