Can't see what I'm recording

I've only used the camcorder a few times. It hadn't been used in awhile and when I went to use it today I can't get a picture. It's recording but it's only a black/blue screen I see with the display icons. No visual of what I'm recording whats so ever. I've checked everything I could think of. It plays back a tape just fine too. Do you have any idea what the problem might be ?
