I'm having a problem turning off the display in a JVC camcorder

Hi, I'm importing a video clip from somebody's camcorder as a favor into imovie. I cannot turn off the display on the camcorder. It keeps showing the "SP" speed and the tape counter. I tried changing the display from FULL to SIMPLE but that didn't fix it. Does anybody have this machine, by chance, or is tech savvy enough to help me figure out how to turn off this function? Whenever I import the clip, the display is importing as well. Thanks in advance.
