Blank screen on play backs

when ever i try to watch a mini dv tape it shows up as the blank blue screen. it says its playing but theres no video or sound. i tried all my tapes and this has been happening to all of them. when i try to record it says i record but then when i try to view the recordings, the same thing occures. if you could help me it would be great.
