Having a problem with the GR-AXM225

We have a JVC Camcorder Model#GR-AXM225. We love the camcorder, but, we have experienced a problem. Camera has been well cared for, never dropped or abused. Went to use it for my childrens xmas, and POOH!, darn battery was dead. Okay, so we charge it. Wrong. Still won't work. Charge a second battery. Nope. So, we figure, well, maybe the batteries need to be replaced. Help!! Advice? Ideas? Thanks in advance for your help,
