Anyone know how to fix the E-04 Safegaurd Mode error???

I used my new camera for 1 event, 1.5 hrs. I put it away for 6 mos. and recharged it for use again, only to find that it will no longer work without being serviced by an authorized JVC dealer to remedy the error. Did I purchase a peice of junk? The price did not indicate it was junk...
