Oops! I put a broken tape in the camera. Now all I get is a blue screen.

My 18 month old boy tore a tape apart. I thought I fixed it and tried to play it. Apparantly, I didn't set a spring back in the right place and the tape guard would not open when the tape is loading. I think!? Anyhow, the tape winds as it should in Play, FF, REW, but all I get is a blue screen when I try to play it back. Can this be fixed?
